Golf Masters 2011Golf masters augusta 2011 begins and Britain’s young Rory Mcllroy is failing to meet great expectations for the golfing prodigy in one of the biggest collapses at a major championship. On the fairways at Augusta this week but another, there will be one battle being fought, just as fiercely competitive, being fought off it.

Rory Mcllroy extended his lead during the third round. Start tomorrows round at 12-under-par, he will be given him four shot clearance over Jason Day, K.J. Choi, Charl Schwartzel and Angel Cabrera. Showed some early nerves, Mcllroy is missing three putts of six feet and closer but still clung to a one-shot advantage heading into the homeward half.

Mcllroy will be the youngest player since Tiger Woods to win his first green jacket back in 1997, if the 21-year-old Mcllroy wins his first green jacket tomorrow. However, it is not an easy task to win at Golf Masters Augusta 2011.

By trying to put the painful experience in perspective, Mcllroy showed his maturity. Mcllroy used seven putts on the next two holes to seal his fate after not taking a single three-putt in the event. He said, “I can’t really put my finger on it. I lost a lot of confidence in my putting around the turn. I didn’t really get anything going and was sort of second guessing lines and second guessing my speed. On these greens you can’t do that.”

Mcllroy has veteran presence within striking distance. That presence coupled with the pressure of Sunday at Augusta, may prove to be too much for the young gun.
